Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley works with individuals and families across Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties to help them achieve the dream of homeownership. Our team works with you - from the initial application to the final moment you get the keys for your home.
We provide safe, decent, affordable housing to our qualified people through our Habitat Homeownership Program.
This is a true partnership.
The home you receive isn't free - it is a commitment that requires monthly mortgage payments AND 250-500 hours of your time put into building, training and preparing for homeownership.

HOMEOWNERSHIP GUIDE - INCOME GUIDELINES
- Your annual pre-tax income must fall within the income guidelines listed below based upon your household size.
- These amounts are updated yearly and Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley reserves the right to update them as needed.

*Annual gross income is defined as total gross income of all people living in a home over the age of 15 at time of program qualification*
ARE YOU READY FOR HOMEOWNERSHIP WITH HABITAT?
GENERAL PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:
- Demonstrate a need for shelter and cannot presently own your own home.
- Willingness to partner with Habitat by completing 250 "sweat equity" hours per adult in the household.
- The ability to attend financial and homeowner education classes.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
- Willingness to purchase a home in Mahoning, Trumbull or Columbiana counties.
- Cannot be a registered sex offender and all family members must pass a criminal background check.
- Cannot have drug violations within the previous 2 years.
FINANCIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Have and maintain an annual gross income within Habitat guidelines
Ability to pay mortgage payments - including taxes and insurance (average $500 per month)
Bankruptcy must be fully discharged for 2 years, no unpaid liens, judgements or civil suits pending
Must maintain a qualifiable, sustainable income, reasonably guaranteed for 3 years.
Present job time of 6 months and a 2-year history of stable income and employment
Monthly debt obligations must be less than 43% of your income
*We do not provide emergency housing or rental homes*
*Average program timeline is 12-24 months*
